President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles called on the world to “pass on a better planet to our children’s children" in the latest episode of ADSW Talks. Crucial to that is partnership, he said, highlighting the collaboration between Seychelles and the United Arab Emirates as a model. In addition to a 5-megawatt solar farm and a 7.5-megawatt wind turbine project, Seychelles and the UAE are developing floating solar farms on the islands of Praslin and La Digue.

"Seychelles, despite being a high-income country, remains vulnerable," Ramkalawan stated, highlighting Seychelles' unique challenges as an island nation. "We need special attention to access resources and continue our renewable energy initiatives." Cooperation with the UAE bolsters the Seychelles' energy capacity and supports the country’s shared commitment to sustainable development and renewable energy.

The President also reflected on the importance of events like Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week as forums for sharing vital knowledge and technological advancements. "It’s critical for us to see modern trends in development and take away innovative solutions, like new battery technology, to expand our limited resources.”

He concluded by adding that ADSW is also a place to connect with young sustainability leaders of tomorrow, urging global cooperation to tackle climate challenges. “My wish is for us to join together and save the planet, so that we can pass it on to future generations.”
