Commitment to advancing sustainable development has helped shape the UAE. As the first country in the MENA region to sign the Paris Agreement, the UAE has one of the most progressive sustainable development strategies in the region and beyond. Supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UAE has established funds and initiatives at both the national and international levels. The leadership of COP28, hosted in the UAE, achieved the landmark UAE Consensus, which saw the world agree to transition away from fossil fuels to reach net zero.

“We have always considered environmental stewardship as an integral part of our economy and view climate action as central to the successful development of our nation,” as Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Cop28 President and Chairman of Masdar, once said. This vision led to the creation of ADSW, a global platform championing sustainable development, innovation, and global collaboration to tackle environmental challenges.

Demonstrating that sustainability is a responsibility as well as an unprecedented opportunity, the Abu Dhabi and UAE leadership have cemented the country’s position at the forefront of crucial global sustainability conversation and action to build a more sustainable and prosperous future.
